A case study is a detailed report of the symptoms, signs, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of an individual patient. They are an excellent way for students to research, learn, and practice critical thinking skills. Meet Evelyn Williamson, an 83 year old female with osteoporosis who suffers a fall and ends up with a fractured hip. Students will research osteoporosis, open reduction internal fixation surgery, total hip arthroplasty and other aspects of Evelyn’s diagnosis and treatment. **Evelyn and her case are fiction! Ideal for a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Anatomy and Physiology, or related course and can be used as a classwork assignment. Students can work independently on the case, and then discuss in small group or as a whole class. Repetition and practice is the best way to learn medical terminology and this Power Point presentation will help your students to do just that. This product contains 100 medical terminology words (each on a slide) followed by their meaning (each on a slide). Some examples include: pericardium, cardiomalacia, orchiectomy, hyperemesis, rhinitis, endometrial, myeloma, and many more! Ideal for Health Sciences, Nursing Assistant, or Medical Assistant course and can be used as a class activity or an independent activity. Answer slides included as well as a student answer worksheet. Ideas for use in your classroom: Competition- I divide the class into two teams and have 3 students from each team compete at one time (I use popsicle sticks to select students/teams). I purchased inexpensive individual “buzzers” from the Dollar Tree and each of the 6 competing students receive one. The medical term is displayed on the board and the instructor (or a student) reads the term. Students buzz in after the word has been read in order to let everyone process the word. After five terms, I select 3 new students from each team to compete, again using popsicle sticks. This continues until all terms have been read (or until the class ends!). The students enjoy the competitive nature of this game! Individual Students can view the Power Point and write down the answer on included answer key and then grade their own paper as they go along. Pairs Students can view the Power Point to quiz each other and review together.
